Report: Casino cash rains on local governments around New York

Ka-ching. Like the coins flowing from an old-fashioned slot machine, hordes of cash are being pulled into the Town of Nichols and Tioga County, a largesse from hosting the upgraded Tioga Downs Casino.

But rather than paying out the new-found pot of gold, municipal officials are taking a cautious approach, banking the initial payment, just in case. “I don’t want to count chickens before they hatch,” said Kevin Engelbert, town supervisor in this community of 2,721 people.
