Across Cayuga County’s 864 square miles, water and sewer lines snake underground servicing approximately 79,000 people. Some lines are meticulously maintained and documented, but some lines are undocumented, old and deteriorating. Lines connecting the village to about 47 accounts in the town are undocumented, giving village workers a headache to find and fix any leaks in the shoddily installed pipes from decades ago. To help remedy problems like that one, the authority is hoping to get funds from the state and county to create a master plan, documenting all the water and sewer systems in the county.
