The Geneva Police Department has scheduled it’s annual Citizens Police Academy for September 13 through October 25, 2016.
The focus of this seven-week academy is to educate citizens about the Geneva Police Department, its organizations, operations and role in the community. Participants gain an understanding of police department responsibilities and the laws that govern it. Students are given the opportunity to offer ideas and share their experiences. The goal of the academy is to continue to develop a partnership between citizens and their local law enforcement agency that benefits both.
Classes are taught by members of the police department. Certificates are awarded upon completion of the course. There is no cost to attend the Citizen Academy and is open to all residents or persons who work in the City of Geneva, who are 18 and older.
Chief Trickler says, “The Citizen’s Academy is a great resource for community members as it gives them an opportunity to learn about how their police department operates on a daily basis. This initiative has been in place for over four years and is made possible by the men and women of the Geneva Police Department and their dedication toward increasing communication with the community.”
Applicants must have a clean criminal history and background checks are done on all applicants. Accepted applicants are required to attend every scheduled class as space is limited to 16 students. You must live or work in the City of Geneva. For more information go to www.geneva.ny.us.
