New York Chiropractic College will hold commencement exercises in the Standard Process Health and Fitness Center on the Seneca Falls campus beginning at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 30. Doors will open to the public at 8:30 am. The college will confer degrees upon 27 candidates from the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program, 26 from the Master of Science in Acupuncture (MSA) and/or Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM) programs, 71 from the Master of Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition (MSACN) program, 36 from the Master of Science in Human Anatomy and Physiology Instruction (MSHAPI) program, one from the Master of Science in Diagnostic Imaging (MSDI) program, and one from the Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy (MSCA) program. One student will receive dual degrees from the DC and MSACN programs. Graduates hail from Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Ontario, Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas/Virgin Islands, Dubai, and Turkey.
Associate professor, Hunter Mollin, DC (’80) will serve as Grand Marshall for the ceremony. Student Government Association President, Komal Khattak will have the honor of addressing the class. Jason Wright, LAc, immediate past dean of the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and adjunct faculty member will deliver the faculty address.
The commencement address will be delivered by Daniel D. Seitz, MA, JD, EdD, the founding dean for NYCC’s acupuncture and Oriental medicine master degree programs. Dr. Seitz was responsible for guiding the development of the programs, including the program mission and curriculum. He chaired the AOM advisory board; a board he continues his service to.
Dr. Seitz earned his Master of Arts for Teachers degree at the University of Chicago, his Juris Doctor degree at Boston University School of Law, and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He has been involved for 30 years with the field of complementary and alternative medicine education, accreditation, and regulation, and currently serves as the executive director of the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education—the accrediting agency for doctoral programs in naturopathic medicine—and works with emerging healthcare fields such as yoga therapy to develop accreditation and certification processes. He is a member of the National Organics Standards Board, which sets the standards for organic food in the U.S. From 1992 – 2001. Seitz served as president of the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) in Watertown, Massachusetts, chair of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and is the former chief of the Acupuncture Unit for the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, where he set up the state’s acupuncture licensing board.
