Panel program on Women’s Rights to be held in SF

You won’t want to miss the panel program on Saturday, July 16th of the annual Convention Days festivities in Seneca Falls. The panel program begins at 11:00 am in Wesleyan Chapel, and deals with the unjust treatment of three females—Harriet Stanton Blatch, Ernestine Rose, and Rhoda Bement. Harriet Blatch was denied membership into her union simply because she was a female. Ernestine Rose was the first Jewish suffragist and was widely misunderstood because of her beliefs. Rhoda Bement was expelled from the Seneca Falls Presbyterian Church because of her conduct in 1843. Panelists are Coline Jenkins, the granddaughter of Blatch; Walter Gable, the Seneca County Historian; and the Rev. Leah Ntuala, pastor of the Seneca Falls Presbyterian Church. The true stories that these panelists will share show that the women’s rights movement was marked by daring females whose viewpoints aroused the wrath of many. Convention Days, Inc. celebrates Seneca Falls, New York as a cornerstone of America’s democratic tradition. We promote the region as the center for the advancement of issues relating to human rights as reflected in the first American Women’s Rights Convention of 1848. The 2016 Convention Days celebrates the 168th anniversary of the 1848 Convention. This year’s theme is “Seeing the World: A Woman’s Perspective.” A complete 2016 schedule of events can be found at these websites: www.conventiondays.com and/orwww.nps.gov/wori
