Man charged with stealing car in Ithaca

A homeless man is facing multiple felony charges after he stole a vehicle on Saturday, July 2nd at 12:11 pm on South Meadow Street in Ithaca. When officers arrived to the scene at 775 South Meadow Street they found the complainant, who advised that he exited his vehicle and left it running while he entered the bank at the location to conduct business. When he returned to his vehicle, police say it was gone.Ithaca Police Officers alerted area law enforcement agencies of this incident, including a description of the vehicle and a description of the suspect that was ascertained from the bank’s video surveillance system.Later that day, members of the Ithaca Police Department were notified that deputies in Schuyler County lcoated the vehicle in Alpine, New York. Deputies detained the vehicle and operator, who was identified as Harold L. Oliver Jr. Officers responded to the location and determined that he was the same person that they had sought for the theft.Oliver was transported back to the Ithaca Police Department and booked on charges of grand larceny in the third degree — a class D felony, grand larceny in the fourth degree – a class E felony, and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.He was remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail.
