A serious accident was reported at the Ontario County Landfill on Monday afternoon around 3:18 pm. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, a serious motor vehicle accident took place on a service road within the confines of the Ontario County Landfill, resulting in a Dundee man being flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital.The call came in shortly after 3:00 pm according to deputies and the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Mack garbage compactor truck was struck by a large CAT articulating end dump truck, causing the driver of the compactor to be trapped inside for more than an hour as emergency crews worked to free the man.The garbage compactor truck was being operated by Christopher M. Heeman, 39, of Dundee and the large CAT articulating end dump truck was being operated by Dennis J. Linendoll, 53 of Glens Falls. Deputies say that the vehicle being operated by Linendoll struck Heeman’s vehicle, which was stationary at the time of the collision. Linendoll’s vehicle allegedly cross into the other lane, striking the stationary garbage compactor.According to deputies’ fire personnel from Stanley, Gorham, and White Springs Road all worked to remove Heeman. He was flown by Mercy Flight Helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of a serious leg injury. The passenger in Heeman’s compactor James H. Vanscooter, 44, of Geneva complained of head and neck pain. He was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital. Linendoll did not appear injured, according to deputies and declined medical treatment. Linendoll is employed at the landfill as a contract employee for Kubricky Construction from Wilton, New York and Heeman is employed by Feher Rubbish Removal out of Syracuse.The investigation into this incident is ongoing and FingerLakes1.com will have more information as it becomes available. Deputies say that the Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Team, OSHA and Casella Enterprises, are all taking part in the investigation, as well.
