Truck tips, spills 2K gallons of milk product in Waterloo

On November 3rd at about 7:30 am, a large tanker trailer that was owned by M&T Trucking in Pavillion, NY, rolled onto its side on Swift Street in the Village of Waterloo, releasing approximately 2000 gallons of milk whey product.The trailer was parked at Summit Milk Products at 61 Swift Street in Waterloo, and had just been detached from the power unit. The pavement underneath the trailer support feet gave way, causing the trailer to roll onto its side in the parking lot. The trailer received minor damage from the accident and no other property was damaged. Waterloo Fire Department was assisted at the scene by several surrounding departments with their water tankers to water down and dilute the spilled milk whey product as it entered the storm drain. Seneca County Haz-Mat team was also on the scene along with NYSDEC and several representatives from the Village of Waterloo. The milk whey product was deemed to be non-hazardous by officials and safe to enter the storm drains and ultimately the Seneca-Cayuga Canal once it was diluted.The trailer was placed back on its wheels by Route 89 Auto and Pullen’s Towing. No tickets were issued following the accident.
