Geneva to complete an inventory on city’s trees

The City of Geneva will be completing an inventory, from this month to October, of all city street trees and a partial inventory of trees on city properties in effort to improve the management of Geneva’s urban forest. Last year, the City received a grant to fund the completion of the inventory through NYS’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program. The inventory will provide management information such as the number of city trees, health and species of the trees, work needs, and sites to plant street trees located on the City street right-of-way and City properties. This information will be used develop work plans and budgets. To facilitate the inventory, the City of Geneva commenced the hiring a consulting urban forester to evaluate trees and management practices, tree planting and addressing priority tree maintenance needs. The City solicited proposals from urban forestry consulting firms to complete the inventory and a contract was awarded to Urban Forestry LLC of Palmyra New York (www.urbanforestryllc.com). Urban foresters Andrew Pleninger and Chris Luley will be walking the streets completing the work in the coming months. They will be wearing yellow safety vests, carrying handheld computers to collect the inventory data and tools of the trade. Please be aware they will not be able to answer questions of work scheduling, City policy, or evaluate trees on private property.
