Waterloo Carp Derby Winners

The 35th annual Carp Derby on June 14 attracted more than 300 entries in the competition for more than $1,300 in prize money. It was the seventh year Rotary has sponsored the carp derby. Again this year, no angler claimed multiple prizes.The winner was Jessie Tompkins of Geneva, who landed a 37.91 pound lunker and netted the $500 first prize. Runner up was Lee Earp with a 36.81 pound fish for $250. Kelly Mahar of Waterloo, last year’s third place winner, captured third again this year with a 34.34 pound carp. All their top fish were caught on the east side of Seneca Lake, a favorite spot for past anglers.Other winners were Mike O’Hora, 33.6 pounds; Tim Ryan, 33.15 pounds; Alex Beotherzton, 32.26 pounds; Nate Shumway, 31.1 pounds and last year’s runner up, Corey Jensen, 31.05 pounds.A.J. Proceeds will benefit Rotary’s community service projects, including Camp Onseyawa.The event was sponsored by Generations Bank, Sessler Company, and Seneca Meadows. Applications were distributed and collected at the Village of Waterloo office, D & M Groceries, Rich and Vern’s, and the Copy Shop in Seneca Falls.
