Beautification Brigade set to dedicate new flower van

Join the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick, the Community Beautification Program, and others as they dedicate the new flower van on Monday, May 18 at 11 am. Painted by horticultural mural artist Kellie Cox-Brady, the new van has replaced the old flower van-the Ford Econoline van painted all over with flowers-that Ithacans have seen all over town for the past seven years. The ceremony will take place in the Mayor’s Parking Space at City Hall, a small oasis in an asphalt parking lot featuring park benches and tree trunk planters filled with flowers and ornamental plants. The Tompkins County Community Beautification Program works with volunteers to plant, weed, water, and maintain flower plantings in the downtown and public areas of Ithaca. The program is funded by the Tompkins County Tourism Program and administered by the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce. Cox-Brady’s horticultural murals can be seen at Cornell University, La Tourelle Resort, one of the painted electric boxes downtown, the Rudbeckia and Bloodroot murals on the Aurora St. side of the parking garage, as well as online at kelliecox.com.
