Sheriff investigating northern Cayuga burglaries

Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a series of larcenies from vehicles dating back to early December and continuing as recently as February 6th. Over the past few months the Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police have taken dozens of reports of vehicles being gone through in the Towns of Cato, Ira, Victory and Sterling. The perpetrators have stolen mainly cash, electronics and tobacco products. The majority of vehicles have been parked in driveways however the perpetrators have entered some garages to gain access to them. Witnesses have described seeing a light colored minivan, possibly a Chrysler product, in the area of some of these incidents in December and February so it is believed at this time that all of these incidents are connected. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying this van and the perpetrators. Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact Detective Steve Smith at (315) 253-3545. Anonymous tips may be left at www.cayugacrime.com.
