Generosity runs rampant in the Finger Lakes region but sometimes certain people go above and beyond the call. After constructing a new orthodontic office, Dr. Rod Littlejohn, an orthodontist in Waterloo and a native of Seneca Falls, donated everything from his previous office to the Geneva Community Health Center, a sub-division of Finger Lakes Migrant Health Care Project, Inc.When we say everything we mean just that. The items donated are valued at more than $15,000 and include dental chairs and lights, cabinets, an xray developer and a Panorex x-ray machine.”We are very fortunate to have this generous gift,” said Dr. Anthony Mendicino, Dental Director at Geneva Community Health Center. “Dr. Littlejohn has always been a big supporter of what we do here. I’ve known him for 17 years and he’s always been extremely generous.””The plan was to rebuild nearby so I felt the dental group could really use the equipment,” said Littlejohn. “Knowing what it costs to equip a dental office, I was very happy to help my good friends and colleagues.” The new office is located at 1203 Waterloo-Geneva Road in Waterloo and there’s another office in Farmington.Dr. Littlejohn graduated from Mynderse Academy and St. Boneventure University and received the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honors from Georgetown University Dental School. He completed one year of dental residency at Rochester General Hospital and received his Graduate Orthodontic Certificate from the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry.Geneva Community Health’s dental services are extensive, providing not only services in the two health centers sites but also through their Mobile Dental Program. The donated equipment is being used primarily for the mobile dental component of the program. Weekly visits are made to Blossomview NursingHome in Sodus and Hillside Children’s Center in Romulus. In addition the mobile program also provides dental services on-site at the numerous Agri-Business Child Development Centers located throughout the Finger Lakes Region as well as on-site at the Wayne and Ontario County Jails.Along with Mendicino, dentists include Drs. Chris Lehfeldt and Joshua Socweine. Hygenists are Phyllis Scofield and Pramada Fatehchand.Finger Lakes Migrant Health Care Project, Inc. began operations in 1989 to provide health care services to migrant and seasonal farm workers. In 2004 the program applied to and received from the New York State Department of Health certification to become an Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Center. This designation now allows the program to serve everyone in the community.Finger Lakes Migrant Health Care Project has two clinics including the Geneva Community Health located at 601B West Washinton St. in Geneva and Sodus Community Health at 6600 Middle Road, Suite 2100 in Sodus. Both sites provide comprehensive primary medical and dental care to all patients.
