An Auburn man was arrested last month for impersonating an officer in Syracuse, police said.
According to the Syracuse Police Department, 21-year-old Anthony Wagner was involved in a dispute with some motorcyclists July 22 when he activated a light bar on the roof of his car — a retired black and white patrol car.
While the police decals had been removed, Syracuse Sgt. Richard Helterline said the 2007 Dodge Charger still had a functioning light bar on top. Wagner had recently purchased the decommissioned car at an auction.
Wagner was driving his car on Route 481 in Syracuse at around 4 p.m. that day when a group of motorcyclists approached his car, Helterline said in an email to The Citizen. Then, after one of the motorcyclists reached over and hit Wagner's passenger-side mirror, Wagner flipped the switch on his light bar and followed them off the highway.
