The Wings of Freedom is a private company which tours the United States with their fleet of vintage World War II aircraft. I got excited when I read on the net that they would be at the Penn Yan airport on Wednesday through Friday. The stars of the show were a B17G bomber, a B24J bomber, and a P51 Mustang nicknamed Betty Jane.
These were meticulously restored machines brought back to their original flying/fighting condition complete with machine guns. One could even take a training ride in the P51 mustang for $2200 for half an hour of flight time! The sound of the Mustang’s 1450 hp engine throbbing at idle was in itself worth the $12 that I paid to take a close look at these aircraft.- Click here for more and additional photos at FLL 360
