Trumansburg historian and photographer Joe Baldwin, who died in October of last year, worked right up until the end of his life on a book about the place he loved most.
“Tales of Old Trumansburg,” published posthumously, has just been released.
The 255-page softbound book comprises a collection of Baldwin’s well-researched stories previously published in the membership newsletter of Ulysses Historical Society. No esoteric tome here; the text is an easy and interesting read, filled with engaging stories of T-burg.
Baldwin revisits a multitude of stories, including a sensational murder case, a village bank heist, the Taughannock Giant hoax, and the tragic flood of 1935.
Who knew Trumansburg once had a silk mill? Certainly not me. Two chapters in the book are devoted to the story.
