Groton, Dryden rivalry heats up with father-son softball connection

From the Dryden Lion dugout on a 70 degree Friday afternoon, Ed Dow yelled out to his shortstop.

“Take a step,” he yelled, motioning for Lindsey Goodenough to move closer to second base.

Kelly Malepe wound up, delivered the pitch and without hesitation Groton’s Paige Graham broke from first to second. Catcher Amy Gardner didn’t hesitate either, swiftly throwing down to Goodenough, who got the tag down in time for the out.

Is it really stealing signs if you’ve been watching your father coach for your entire life?
