Publishers Clearing House does not call people on the phone to alert them that they have won.
Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero says that some residents have reported receiving phone call, which is a scam, where the scammer tells the person on the line that they won a significant amount of money from PCH.
One of those reports was specific. The caller said the woman had won $800,000. He then reportedly requested personal information from her, claiming it was needed in order for her to claim the prize.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who receives this call to hang up as soon as possible.
