Quintel Clements took a steal the length of the court to give Newfield a 65-62 lead with 12.8 seconds on the clock that sent the Trojans into the Class D state championship game behind a two overtime victory over Harrisville in the semifinal Friday at Floyd L. Maines Arena.
The 65-62 final score makes it the first time since 1986 that Newfield will compete for a state title. The Trojans (20-5) will play Section VII’s Moriah, an 82-64 victor over Franklinville in the early game. The game is back at Floyd L. Maines Arena in Binghamton at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
