Annual San Pedro Benefit Dinner
Saturday, March 16, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm
$5 – $30Come for a wonderful meal and an enlightening talk “El Salvador, Central America, and Immigration: An Inside Look” by Dr. Miranda (Buffam) Hallett of the University of Dayton. Miranda’s visit to El Salvador was the spark that started what is now a 15-year relationship of accompaniment with the rural community of San Pedro. Dr. Hallett, an SCCS graduate, has done years of research with the people of El Salvador and the U.S. on the very personal story of immigration.
The San Pedro Sister Community Project of southern Cayuga County works hand in hand with the Salvadoran NGO FUNDAHMER and the people of San Pedro in a cooperative effort to foster friendship and solidarity across national boundaries, and raise consciousness about cultural differences and global inequality. Our connection is strengthened through economic support, correspondence, and visits, which allow for mutual sharing of our stories and hopes. We hope to maintain a long-lasting relationship and through shared decision-making, to assist San Pedro in a way that creates sustainability and economic well being.
Do you wonder how you can make a difference in the world? Join us in making a difference in the life of one community and see the effects ripple through the hemisphere. Attend our dinner, donate (sanpedrosistercommunity.blogspot.com), come along on a visit to El Salvador, or all three! You won’t be sorry.
