Historic Seneca Co. Courthouse receives help

Mark Benjamin, community relations director of Seneca Meadows landfill in Seneca Falls recently presented Dan Motill, construction and finance chair of the Friends of the 3 Bears complex in Ovid with a grant to assist with gap funding for the repair of the South County Courthouse ceiling. Restoration work on the Ovid Historic Court House Complex has suffered a major setback on the roof and in the ceiling of the court room.“We had the plans to repair the roof, but due to funding, the work was delayed until recently,” offered Motill. “In the meantime, the structure suffered from the high winds and heavy rain from recent storms sufficiently so that the court room ceiling was damaged and partially collapsed,” added Motill. For safety reasons, access to the Court Room has been closed, which is the center piece of the presentation of the Complex. This unfortunate event comes on the heels of the recent Award from the Landmark Society of Western New York for the successful restoration of a sister building at the complex.Additional funds are welcomed to help with the funding of the ceiling restoration, and those interested are asked to contact Dan Motill at 607-869-9585.
