An Ontario County reclaimed and sustainable wood manufacturer isn’t waiting for the $15 minimum wage to arrive upstate.
Pioneer Millworks announced on Wednesday that it is committed to a $15 per hour wage program for all full-time employees beginning on Labor Day, Sept. 4.
The current minimum wage in New York is $9.70, as part of a general increase in the minimum wage approved by the state Legislature. In Oregon, where Pioneer has mills, the minimum wage is $10.25.
The minimum wage in upstate New York rises to $10.40 in January and continues to rise to $12.50 in 2020. It is projected to rise to $15 in 2021, but whether that hike is enacted that year will be determined by state labor officials.
