Port Gibson, Newark, Clifton Springs and Phelps Fire Departments were all called to the scene of a Short Rd. structure fire on Thursday.
Upon arrival, deputies say that flames and heavy smoke were showing from the west side of the residence. The fire had been contained to the garage and some of the living area, which sustained major fire, smoke, and water damage as result of the fire.
The home owner was identified as John Giovenco, 82, of Manchester suffered minor burns and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Deputies say the fire appears to have started in the garage after Giovanco was working on his tractor. However, the investigation remains active and an official cause has not been identified.
Short Rd. was closed as crews battled the blaze.
