Auburn officials hope that the city’s latest loan to the Auburn Doubledays will be the last.
Members of the Auburn City Council voted unanimously Thursday to authorize a $150,000 interest-free loan for the Doubledays, the short-season Class-A Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The loan, which will come from the city’s fund balance, is pending the approval of the New York-Penn League. The money will be used to free up cash flow for the franchise following a series of staffing changes at the end of last year, said Corporation Counsel John Rossi.
