As students return, city checks its water levels in Ithaca

As thousands of people — a little more than 20,000 at Cornell University and close to 7,000 at Ithaca College — inundate this city of almost 31,000 starting this weekend, they are doing so during the worst drought since 1999. All the showers, loads of laundry and dish-washing that come along with the influx of people will draw on water systems that have been tested to the limit all summer.
