The Ithaca Police Department reports that traffic, which was being diverted earlier on Elmira Road in the City of Ithaca was caused by a two car accident.Officers received report of an accident on Elmira Road in front of Burger King and Fat Jack’s where two cars had collided. Multiple injuries were initially reported, as well as multiple entrapments. The Ithaca Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove the entire roof of one vehicle. All responding personnel worked together to remove the entrapped driver. The driver’s condition was not known at the time of the accident, and the passenger was able to get out of the vehicle on their own. Both the driver and passenger were brought to Robert Packard Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The four occupants of the other vehicle were transported to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of less extensive injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
