Seneca Co. Deputies save three using Narcan

Over the past 5 ½ weeks, Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies administered Naloxone (NARCAN) to three persons suspected over overdosing on Heroin or opiates and saved all three. On 9-11-15 Deputy Timothy O’Neill responded to a PreEmption Street residence, in the Town of Waterloo and found a 25 year old male unresponsive / slow breathing /slow pulse heroin overdose – breathing being assisted by Border City Fire Department. Deputy O’Neil administered Naloxone and the subject began breathing normally. He was transported to Geneva General Hospital where he was treated and released. On 10-15-15 Deputy Michael Strohm was flagged down in the Town of Seneca Falls for an unconscious 32 year old female known heroin user who was unconscious in a vehicle and was unresponsive/breathing slow/ slow pulse. Deputy Strohm administered two vials of naloxone. The female was transported to Geneva General Hospital where she was treated and released. On 10-16-15 Deputy Scott MacCheyne responded to a Town of Lodi residence for a 48 year old female who was barely breathing and unresponsive. Deputy MacCheyne administered two vials of Naloxone and the female regained consciousness and began breathing normally. She was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released. “Since our Deputies have been trained in the use of Naloxone (Narcan) which is carried in all of our patrol vehicles we have successfully administered this life saving substance several times saving all who would have eventually died if not being administered Naloxone which attaches to brain receptors and blocks opioids from getting in “, said Undersheriff Gary Sullivan. “On Thursday, October 29, 2015, from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM we are sponsoring a “Heroin and Opioid – Community Forum – Heroin is here in Seneca County, at the Waterloo High School. We encourage everyone who wants to learn how we reached this level of heroin use and abuse, the warning signs, what to look for if you think a loved one is using heroin, the symptoms, and hear from medical professionals and former users and the effects heroin use has had on families to attend” continued Undersheriff Sullivan.
