Snowmobile stolen, then recovered; Red Creek resident charged with petit larceny

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Red Creek man following an investigation into stolen property.

Dustin J. Thomas, 23, of Red Creek was charged with Petit Larceny following a call for a property retrieval in the Town of Wolcott.

Deputies say on November 29th they were dispatched to an assist a citizen for a property retrieval in the Town of Wolcott. Upon arrival, the complainant indicated to patrol that his 1999 Arctic Cat ZR 700 was missing from the back yard of the property.

Patrol was advised that Thomas was the only one that would have had the opportunity to take the snowmobile from the property.



On December 13th deputies was able to make contact with the complainant who stated that on November 29th as he was pulling off the property he observed Thomas riding the snowmobile.

The complainant was able to recover his snowmobile and take possession.

On December 15th deputies were able to make contact with Thomas at his mother’s residence where he admitted that he did intentionally, knowingly, and unlawfully take the snowmobile and place it in a barn.

Thomas was charged with Petit Larceny. He was taken to the Wayne County Jail for finger prints and photos and was released on an appearance ticket.

He is to appear in the Town of Wolcott Court on January 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. to answer to the charge.
