Cayuga County movie theater to replace seats with recliners

Seeing movies at an Auburn-area movie theater will become a little more luxurious in March.

The Auburn Movieplex 10 in Sennett has announced that it will replace the seating in all 10 of its theaters with plush luxury recliners that month.

Assistant Manager Taylor Green said Tuesday that the theater has wanted to replace the seats for a few years. They’re currently being custom-made for the theater, she said.

Examples of the seats are on display in the Movieplex lobby. Green said there are two types: a wider one, with a rotating tray table, that fully reclines to an almost horizontal position, and another that reclines less. Green said the former will be installed in the front of the theaters, closest to the screens, and the latter will go in the back.

The size of the seats will mean a lower seat count in each theater, Green said. But “we haven’t sold out (showings) in awhile so that’s not really a large concern,” she continued.
