Troopers searching for driver who threw two dogs out of moving car in Cortland County

State police are looking for the people responsible for throwing two dogs out of a moving vehicle in Cortland County Wednesday.

Troopers patrolling I-81 in the Whitney Point area around 9:30 Wednesday morning spotted a tractor trailer pulled over on the side of the road. They noticed the driver carrying a badly injured dog and another following behind him.

The truck driver told police he saw what he believes is an older Dodge Durango slow down, roll down their rear passenger window and throw the dogs out of the window. He described the vehicle as very dirty and had rust along the hatch near the bumper area.

According to investigators, a New York State Police K9 handler bandaged the injured dog to stop bleeding and splinted its leg while other troopers kept the dog warm in a warming blanket and in the truck driver’s sweatshirt.
