Long arm of the law grabs Auburn theft suspect in New York City

It took a 10 hours of driving, but Auburn police finally got their man.

Dashaun Gray, 19, who allegedly used two counterfeit $100 American Express travelers checks at the Auburn Wegmans in July, was arrested on Wednesday.

The Auburn Police Department reported that Gray, who lives in Queens, purchased small items with the travelers checks and got cash back. They said Town of Geddes police also had issues of the same nature with Gray.

Auburn City Court issued an arrest warrant for Gray and when he was located in New York City, the New York Police Department notified APD. After a 10-hour round-trip drive to retrieve Gray, officers officially charged him at the Auburn station around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Gray, who was arraigned in city court Wednesday morning, was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, class C felonies.
