Genesee Elementary School’s winter break lasts 12 days this year, and Sandy Lalonde wants to make sure children at home have enough to eat on every single one of them.
Lalonde is the co-founder of Fill-A-Belly Over Break, which collects supplies to make sure families of children who attend the Auburn school have breakfast, lunch and dinner each day of the break. Families must register to receive a large box of nonperishable items and goods such as meat, cheese, milk and eggs. The larger the family, the larger the box they get.
Food and monetary donations will be accepted up to the day of the food giveaway Dec. 20 at the school. People who give food should go to the school’s office and ask for school social worker Jennifer Poole, who is co-organizing the food drive.
