The Finger Lakes Land Trust announced Monday that six acres of donated land in the towns of Niles and Sempronius will be permanently protected in order to help preserve Skaneateles Lake’s water quality.
The piece forested hillside in the Skaneateles Highlands areas will be kept free from development as part of the Land Trust’s work to secure land near Bear Swamp State Forest and Bear Swamp Creek, a tributary of the lake.
“We are pleased our contribution will benefit the public with respect to water quality and outdoor recreation, as well as preserve the forested environment for the flora and fauna that inhabit this beautiful region in which we are privileged to live,” said Anne Mackenzie, who donated the land along with Frank Girardi.
The specific use of the land has yet to be determined, the Land Trust said in a release, but the organization is considering options such as donating the property to the state to include in Bear Swamp State Forest.
