A New York State Police trooper who stopped to help a driver with a flat tire on Saturday discovered an illegal, furry passenger in the back of the pickup — a Canadian lynx.
When the trooper stopped to help the motorist on Interstate 86 in Ashland, Chemung County, and saw a dog cage in the back of the truck with the lynx inside, according to a state police news release.
With assistance from the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation, the state police determined the lynx was being illegally transported from Illinois to Binghamton.
