Trooper finds Canadian lynx in truck headed for Binghamton

A New York State Police trooper who stopped to help a driver with a flat tire on Saturday discovered an illegal, furry passenger in the back of the pickup — a Canadian lynx.

When the trooper stopped to help the motorist on Interstate 86 in Ashland, Chemung County, and saw a dog cage in the back of the truck with the lynx inside, according to a state police news release.

With assistance from the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation, the state police determined the lynx was being illegally transported from Illinois to Binghamton.
