What could be one of the largest solar farms in the area is proposed in 40 acres in Farmington.
It’s the size of the project, not the purpose, that has many worried.
Signs of protest surround the Farmington field that could soon be home to 21,000 solar panels.
“It will destroy this area of town,” argued Stacey Vandenburgh, who lives about a mile from the proposed solar farm. “And it’s not just visual impact.”
New York City-based Delaware River Solar wants to build the solar farm, which has now become a topic of debate in town.
It would be near the intersection of Fox Road and Yellow Mills Road.
“I just can’t even fathom why this project is on the table,” said Vandenburgh. ‘We have people who think any unoccupied piece of land is better filled with something.”
The concerns include losing more than 30 acres of local farmland and decreasing property values.
The project developer says it will be a benefit, supplying power to around 1,200 local homes. The land would be released from a local farmer who did not want to comment on this report.
