The city of Auburn parking garage’s upper levels will offer free unlimited parking through Jan. 6.
“Downtown Auburn saw a lot of progress this year and we would like to thank all of the downtown merchants and their customers for your patience during construction,” said Auburn Mayor Michael Quill in a press release issued Monday.
The city has been offering the free parking in conjunction with construction related to the new Equal Rights Heritage Center, which is across Lincoln Street from the garage. Officials had originally said the free garage parking would end Nov. 30, but have decided to continue that into the new year.
Meanwhile, construction on the intersection of Lincoln Street and William Street will continue this week. Once this work is completed, Lincoln Street will reopen to two-way traffic through the spring of 2019. In the spring, final paving and site work will resume.
