Clifton Springs man falsely accuses off-duty deputy of displaying gun at local bar

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a 21-year-old Clifton Springs man after he falsely reported an off-duty deputy displaying a gun at a local bar.

Collin J. Bowman, 21, of Clifton Springs was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident.

Bowman is accused of telling police officers that an off-duty deputy displayed a handgun in his waistband, at a bar in downtown Geneva.



He then claimed that the deputy ordered him to leave the bar.

After investigation Bowman became uncertain that the person involved was actually a deputy. Then, by the conclusion of the investigation — it was determined that the incident never happened at all.

Bowman was taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.
