Local auctioneer accused of cheating estate out of $200K in Tompkins

A local auctioneer has been charged with failing to pay an estate owner thousands for a property in Tompkins County, according to state police.

Police say David C. Hall, 47, was arrested after a year-long investigation. He’s the proprietor of Worth Auctions, which is located on Dryden Road, in Freeville.

Troopers said Hall failed to pay the owner of an estate for property valued at more than $200,000. The case was brought to state police investigators in December 2017.

Hall was charged with a felony count of second-degree grand larceny, which alleges theft with a property value in excess of $50,000.

After surrendering to troopers, Hall was sent to the Tompkins County jail with bail set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond, to await further court appearances.

If convicted of the grand larceny charge, Hall could face up to 15 years in prison.
