Conductor, soloist named for RPO Concert at Newark High School

The Newark Central School District, in conjunction with the Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, will once again host an evening of holiday music with the incomparable Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in the Newark High School on Friday, November 30th at 7:30PM.

We are proud and privileged to host the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for the 18th consecutive year. These holiday concerts here in our community are a wonderful annual holiday tradition that so many of us look forward to,’’ said Cynthia Briggs, NCSD Music Department Leader and Kelley School instrumental music teacher.

Richard Carsey, conductor, arranger, pianist, and actor who is currently a conductor for the longest-running musical in history, “The Phantom Of The Opera” on Broadway, will be the guest conductor again this year.

He is also a conductor of the 2018 revival of “Carousel” featuring Joshua Henry, Jessie Mueller, and Renee Fleming.

National tours include Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of “The Phantom Of The Opera”, and the revival of “La Cage Aux Folles” with George Hamilton. Also on Broadway, he was music supervisor of “The House Of Blue Leaves” starring Ben Stiller and Edie Falco, and musical director for Joshua Schmidt’s musical “A Minister’s Wife” at Lincoln Center Theater.

Internationally, he has performed as pianist and conductor in such exotic locales as Lima, Athens, Barcelona, Islamabad, and Kuwait. Richard enjoyed a long association with the Skylight Opera Theatre in Milwaukee, WI as principal conductor, and for nine seasons was artistic director. As conductor, he has led more than 80 productions at the Skylight, ranging from opera and operetta to musicals. Highlights include the world premiere and television broadcast of Richard Wargo’s opera “Ballymore”; a PBS broadcast of “The Mikado”; and the world premiere of the opera “The Rivals” by Kirke Mechem. He has provided musical direction for regional productions throughout the U.S. including the Marriott Theater, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Florida State Opera, and the Guthrie in Minneapolis.

In 2019, Richard will assume the position of conductor and music director for “Disney On Classic,” an annual tour featuring eight American singers and The Orchestra Japan, presenting more than 60 concerts in Tokyo, Okinawa, Osaka, and other cities throughout Japan.

Tricia Tanguy, who in January will be on the North American tour of the Broadway revival of “Cats”  will be the guest soloist.

She was the understudy for all 4 women in both the original Off-Broadway company and the currently running revival of “The Marvelous Wonderettes.”

National tours include the First National Tour of “Sister Act” (Ensemble; Mary Robert, Mary Patrick, Martin of Tours, Mary Theresa U/S), “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (U/S to the Narrator – American Idol’s Diana Degarmo), “Cats” (Grizabella), and “The Producers” (Hold Me, TouchMe).

Regionally, she has worked at Theatre Aspen in Aspen, Colorado and as both a performer and a director at Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn As a soloist/vocalist, she has toured Japan and Taiwan with the Orchestra Japan for “Disney On Classic,” and her rendition of “Let It Go” can be heard on the “Disney On Classic Live Best” album.

She traveled Northern Europe, the Baltic, and the Southern Caribbean as the MainStage female vocalist for Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Tricia has been a two-time National Anthem soloist for the Cleveland Indians.

Admission to the RPO concert is $5 for students, $10 for senior citizens and $12 for adults. Advance sale tickets are available at Newark Wegmans and at the Newark and Lyons branches of Lyons National Bank.
