While waiting to embark on their next deployment, a group of local Navy service men and women have spent their time giving back to the community. Once a month since September, they have been coming into the Meals On Wheels kitchen and preparing meals for our recipients. With Veterans Day upcoming next week, we would love to be able to recognize the great community service aspect that they are providing.
Our volunteers from the Navy will be there this morning, November 6th, 2018 from 9AM -12PM. Around 11AM, our Meals On Wheels staff members and Navy volunteers would be available to speak about the great work that they are doing and why it is important that they are giving back. The location for this is 50 Prince St., Rochester, NY 14607. Please enter into the main part of the building and ask to head to the main Meals On Wheels office.
About Meals On Wheels, a program of UR Medicine Home Care
Visiting Nurse Service established the local Meals On Wheels program, the third oldest in the United States, in 1958 and has since served millions of meals. The program ensures that over 1,400 individuals throughout the year receive safety checks during the day and delivers approximately 215,000 meals per year. For many seniors and homebound residents who cannot get to a store or stand in a kitchen for long periods of time, Meals On Wheels is essential for their health and well-being. All meals are overseen by a registered dietician and contain one third of a senior’s daily recommended dietary allowances. For more information about donating, call (585) 787-8748.
