Syracuse football ranked 13th in latest Coaches and AP Polls

After another win, the Syracuse Orange (7-2, 4-2) are far from slowing down in their rapid ascent up the polls. Sunday’s Coaches Poll pegged them all the way up at 13th, up 11 spots from where they were last week.

Among those teams in last week’s rankings, Syracuse was tied with the rival Boston College Eagles for the biggest jump from week 10. SU received 625 total votes — over 100 back of No. 12 Kentucky, but also 45 clear of BC.

Curiously, despite a 7-2 mark and the praise coming in from last week’s College Football Playoffrankings too, at least one coach failed to include SU in their poll. That wasn’t even the most egregious omission either, with Washington State (No. 9) also failing to appear on at least one ballot this week.

No matter their ranking or who voted for them, the Orange face Louisville next, followed by games against ranked foes Notre Dame (No. 3) and Boston College (No. 14) to close the season. Pair those teams with ranked previous opponents Clemson (second) and NC State (22nd), and that’s a pretty formidable schedule for Syracuse to perform this week against.

Syracuse was ranked 13th in the AP Poll as well, moving up nine spots there (the biggest jump of any team in last week’s rankings). It’s the highest the Orange have appeared in any AP Poll since 1998, when they got all the way to 11th.
