FREEZE WARNING: Temps drop, snow showers possible for some

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say multiple counties in the Finger Lakes are going to be faced with the first freeze of the season tonight.

The weather service issued Freeze Warnings for most of the region, which means that temperatures below 32 degrees are highly-likely for the area.

The conditions will kill unprotected crops and other sensitive vegetation, effectively ending the growing season. Forecasters say wind chills could even dip into the teens or low-20s, too.

It will be a gusty, rainy day leading up to that overnight freeze. Temperatures will drop throughout the day, and into the evening – letting some of that rain transition into snow showers for parts.

Here’s what the remainder of your week looks like in the Finger Lakes, according to the National Weather Service:

Thursday

Snow showers likely before 9am, then rain and snow showers likely between 9am and 1pm, then a chance of rain showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 34. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

Friday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 62.

Friday Night

A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday

Showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night

Rain showers likely before 4am, then rain and snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday

Rain and snow showers likely, becoming all rain after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
