Finger Lakes youth hunt moves to Deer Haven Park

The base of operations for the fourth annual Finger Lakes Regional Youth Deer Hunt, which was held Oct. 6-8, was new this year. The Seneca County Training Center in Romulus served as the host, and the actual hunt took place at the piece of the former Seneca Army Depot that is now Deer Haven Park.

The hunt has grown from its humble beginnings as a third leg of the annual DeRoo Youth Conservation Event, an annual affair that encompasses deer, pheasants and waterfowl. Because of the deer hunt being such a highly sought-after event, it has been expanded into a stand-alone hunt that is held in cooperation with the original DeRoo Memorial Youth Event that celebrated its 11th year Friday and Saturday.
