Harris Corporation announced on Sunday that the company will be merging with L3 Technologies, another company that provides communications and electronic systems for the military.
The company says this merger will create a global defense technology leader.
The new name of the combined company will be L3 Harris Technologies. It will be the sixth largest defense company in the nation, top ten in the world.
Harris Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, William M. Brown says the merger will allow for accelerated innovation.
The current 3,500 jobs in Rochester at Harris will likely remain. Harris is still looking to fill the openings it has.
L3 currently operates a facility in Ontario County.
