Syracuse scored the only goal it would need in the 65th minute as it upset No. 1-ranked and previously undefeated Wake Forest, 2-0, in men’s soccer action at the SU Soccer Stadium. Freshman Hilli Goldhar put the Orange ahead with his second goal of the year, and senior goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert made five saves for his second shutout of the season.
“I’m delighted for the guys,” said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. “At the end of the day, it’s three points (in the ACC standings), but for the guys and the crowd, it certainly was a special night. But it’s three points – a very important three points because we’ve played some really good teams and this was another one. For the last few weeks I’ve said we have some really good players. Tonight I can say we have a really good team.”
