Sheriff Luce: App will help grow ‘Community Policing’ efforts

Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Luce announced the release of a new iPhone and Android mobile app as a service to the community.

The app is available for the public as a free download from both major app stores.

The new app is an innovative approach to help Seneca County citizens stay tuned to important news and resources from the Sheriff’s Office.

After downloading the app onto a smartphone or tablet, a user can receive important alerts from the Sheriff’s Office and access public safety information..

One of the app’s key features is: “Submit a Tip”– a form that enables you to submit a crime tip, along with photos. Tips can be made anonymously or with contact information. Users that submit tips can remain confidential.

Sheriff Luce said that the app was a big step toward better ‘Community Policing’. “Having a one stop app available to the public is a great way to facilitate both benefits. Research shows that at least 2/3 of all Americans have smart phones and 40% use the phones to access government services or information,” he explained. “The app also allows real time communication between the Sheriff’s Office and the public we serve. With the App, the Sheriff’s website, Facebook, and twitter, the Sheriff’s Office should be able to contact many people. Mass communication during emergencies, serious crimes and critical incidents allows immediate updates and warnings to be communicated to the public. It also allows the public to immediately communicate with the Sheriff’s Office information relating to these types of incidents.”

Users can also phone in a narcotics tip directly through the app’s Drug Tip line feature.

Users can scroll through the list of Seneca County’s Most Wanted fugitives including their photos, details, and offenses.

Under the Main Menu, Users can access Inmate Information, including an Inmate Search, Correctional Facility information, rules and Visitation hours. You can also make payments online directly from the app: post bail, and place funds in an inmate’s commissary account.

Other important features include Victim Notification Services, Pistol Permits, and the Citizen’s Academy.
