Upon arrival the fire was contained and extinguished. Deputies say that the motel suffered minor damage, and the rooms impacted were not occupied.
Deputies say Cheryl A. Buckley, 60, set fire to the motel after an individual staying at the multi-unit dwelling broke up with her.
She is accused of attempting to set fire to the victim’s vehicle before setting the motel room on fire. She had also attempted to set fire to the building from the outside prior to successfully doing so inside. Deputies say she also stuffed a gasoline soaked rag inside the victim’s vehicle’s exhaust pipe, in an attempt to set it on fire.
Buckley was arraigned on arson charges and held at the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
