Baxter named ‘Republican of the Year’ in Ontario County

The Ontario County Republican Committee is proud to announce that Gary Baxter of Geneva will be honored as the Ontario County Republican of the Year at the annual Constitution Day Dinner Friday, Sept. 21, at Club 86 in Geneva.

Baxter, who began serving as county treasurer in 2005 when he was appointed to the position by Gov. George Pataki to complete an unexpired term, is a candidate for re-election. After his first election win in 2006, he was re-elected in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

A lifelong resident of Geneva, Baxter is a retired Geneva Police Detective and is active in many Geneva organizations, including the Hydrant Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department and the Geneva City and Ontario County Republican Committees. He served on the Geneva City Council for a number of years.

Tickets for the annual Constitution Day Dinner are $40 per person or $300 for tables of eight and can be purchased from www.ontariocountyrepublicancommittee.com or P.O. Box 610, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Additional sponsorships are available by contacting Ontario Republican Chair Trisha Turner at 585-261-0737 or [email protected].

“Gary Baxter is always willing to help,” said Turner. “Whether it’s putting up campaign signs or co-chairing the annual Professional Directory project. No job is too small or too big for him. He’s what being a good Republican is all about.”

Baxter noted how honored he is to receive the award, which will be presented at the dinner on Sept. 21. “I am honored to serve the people of the county committee and the people of Ontario County as county treasurer. I will help in any way I can.”

“The Constitution Day Dinner is an annual event to meet and hear from prominent Republican office holders and to celebrate success on the local, state and national levels,” said Turner. This year’s event will feature Marc Molinaro, governor candidate, Keith Wofford, attorney general candidate, Jonathan Trichter, comptroller candidate, Congressman Tom Reed, State Senator Pam Helming and Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb. Town and City Republican Committee Persons of the Year also will be honored at the dinner.

Also active in professional life, Baxter was recently elected Second Vice President of the New York State Treasurer and Finance Officers Association.

A graduate of Geneva High School and Finger Lakes Community College, he is a Past Charter Member of Partnership for a Drug Free Ontario County, a past Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America Troop # 4, a member of the Executive Committee of Seneca Waterways BSA Council, a Past President of Aeneas McDonald Police Benevolent Association and a Member of Ark Lodge F&AM for 33.
