Traffic Alert: Patrols expected to increase as ‘speed week’ continues along NYS Thruway

Drivers can expect to see an increase in patrols starting Monday. It comes as State Police announced another ‘Speed Week Crackdown’.

According to state police, more troopers will be out looking for dangerous and reckless drivers.

Law enforcement officials said they will be out in both marked and unmarked cars.

Speed is a contributing factor in nearly one third of all fatal crashed in New York state according to officials.

State Police they will be watching out for drivers who commit other traffic violations in addition to speeding. Those violations include distracted or impaired driving, not moving over for emergency vehicles, and not wearing a seat belt.

According to state officials there are several fines drivers could face if caught speeding on a 55 mph highway or posted 65 mph zones.
