Ithaca man in critical condition after incident at Cayuga Inlet

First responders say around 3:18 pm the Ithaca Police Department responded to the Cayuga Lake Inlet on South Fulton Street for the report of a person in the water.

The area is commonly referred to as ‘The Jungle’, and upon arrival a subject was located in the water. Police say the person was not conscious or breathing.

Officers entered the waters, brought him to the shore, and began CPR efforts. Bangs Ambulance personnel transported the subject to a nearby landing zone where he was flown to a regional trauma center.

Police say the subject is a 49-year-old Ithaca resident, but that the person’s name is being withheld at this time.

Police say the subject was listed in critical condition, and an investigation is underway into the circumstances, which led to him being in the water.
